Photography Friday {Take One}

I've had big dreams of becoming a photographer for a long time now. I've always been interested in taking pictures but then something happened that really brought the desire into focus for me.

It all started back in 2007 when I was searching for someone to photograph my wedding. I was floored at how expensive a professional photographer could be; it was so difficult to find someone who took quality pictures and were also reasonably priced.

In the end I chose someone who I thought would take great pictures based on their portfolio - and great news! - she was cheap. Now, I hate to say you get what you pay for, but sometimes it's true. On my wedding day, I was devastated. The woman I'd hired didn't even show up until the reception. By that time I was so pissed off that I informed several people that they needed to politely ask her to leave before I got ahold of her. Luckily, I have some very talented people in my family and I got plenty of amazing photos!

I've been pining for years over a beautiful, quality camera so that I could learn photography skills and hopefully, maybe, someday open up my own photography business. I would love to be able to provide a quality service at reasonable prices.

Well...back in November my hubby bought me an early Christmas present!

As you can probably imagine, I've been snapping photos like crazy ever since! No, I'm not about to tell you that all of a sudden I'm a professional photographer and I'm going to offer you a great package deal for all of your photography needs, yada yada yada! I have however been experimenting and shooting everything I can possibly get my hands on and I want to share that with you!

I would love your feedback even if you think I should put my camera down right now! (Don't break my heart!) If you are local and you'd like to let me photograph you for fun, let me know! I need to practice :)

These photos are from a few weeks ago when we went to a local park for the afternoon.

Well, what do you think? Give it to me straight!

  1. Have you taken lessons? These photos are great! I have a Nikon D3100 and I still can't shoot off automatic--well I can kind of but my shots wont come out anywhere as good as these!

    Great job

  2. Lovely photos. I am also learning to take better photos, it isn't always easy since my grandson and little dogs rarely sit still long enough to get the settings right. :-) I do love the sunset photos, and they are much easier to practice on since the sun doesn't move as fast as a four-year-old boy or two 2-year-old dogs! lol

    1. Oh, Vickie you are so right! As of right now, I mostly photograph my children and they are so "over it!" My daughter is at that stage where she doesn't feel like being in front of the camera and my son won't hardly sit still.
      I feel your pain!

  5. Oh lucky, lucky you...I really like that camera!!! I couldn't get my dream DSLR camera, but I got a really nice Canon point and shoot for Christmas, and I love it. Your photos are gorgeous. I really like #6 of the kids...Makes you wonder what it is that they're both looking at. Love it!
