Surprise, Fashion + A New Car {Five Question Friday Link Up}

It's been quite some time since I've participated in Five Question Friday and today felt like a good time to jump back in. Why don't you join me? Answer these questions on your blog and then head on over and link up.

1. Do you have a doppelgänger?

I really don't think I do! When I was younger everyone used to tell me I looked like Tiffany Amber-Thiessen. I think it's the whole heart shaped face thing maybe? However, my face is more round than heart shaped these days and I'd give my right arm to look like that pretty lady! Kidding, I wouldn't give up my right arm for anything. Maybe the left.

2. Do you keep your car cleaned up?

Actually, yes, I do! My husband is the one who trashes it - seriously! He's also the one who has the duty of cleaning it though. It drives me crazy when I get in the car and he's left trash all over the place. DRIVES.ME.CRAZY.

This might be a good time to mention that I got a new car last Saturday! It was kind of my Mother's Day present! So new car = super clean. At least for now!

3. What is a current fashion that drives you crazy.

I'm really not on the up and up with fashion. If I see something that I like then I wear it whether it is fashionable or not.

4. How often do you go grocery shopping?

Usually just once a week. It used to be every two weeks but the kids are getting older and we run out of certain things more often than before. Luckily my hubby is usually willing to stop on his way home from work if I just need a thing or two. Bless that man!

5. What has been the best surprise of your life?

I've had some serious surprises in my life but the absolute best has been in my husband. I talk a lot about this in the second part of our love story, but if you would have told me when I first met him that we'd end up married someday I would have laughed in your face for days. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that we'd end up together. He surprised me though. He is more than I could have ever imagined. The best part is that he has shown me what true unconditional love is and I really don't know how I got so lucky! Okay, enough of that sappy stuff.

A Little Sunshine! {5QF}

Happy Friday y'all! I'm happy that it's Friday and even happier that the sun is SHINING! We've had rain for days on end and it's supposed to start back up again tomorrow, but for today I will relish in this beauty :)

I'm linking up with My Little Life today for Five Question Friday!

Photobucket

1. Flue mist? Flue shot? Or take your chances? I take my chances. Always have and probably always will.

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price? Um, nope! I don't have one either. My kids are young, 3 & 5, and even if they weren't, they probably still would not have iPads.

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names? When I was pregnant with my son I was obsessed with the name Grayson. My husband hated it and refused to even consider it. If we EVER end up pregnant again and it's a boy - he will be Grayson. As far as a girl's name goes - I haven't thought about that in a REALLY long time. I had two favorite names when I was pregnant with Addison and I gave her both of them just in case I never had another little girl. Addison Delaney.

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? My mom got me eating the honey crisp apples (I think that is what they are!) and they are so delicious. I don't eat a lot of apples, but when I do, those are the ones I go for!

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why? Wait, whaaat? You can do that? Escape for peace and quiet? I.HAD.NO.CLUE.

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIENDS!

Let Them Eat Cake
I'm also linking up for the Aloha Friday Blog Hop.

Five Question Friday - Labor & Delivery Edition

Hi y'all! Happy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend? I am, even though my weekend is going to be busier than my week was! I'm running The Color Run on Sunday!!! I've been waiting for this for months but it should come as no surprise to you when I tell you that I haven't prepared myself even one little bit! I'm not worried - it's going to be so much fun!

I love linking up for Five Question Friday so of course I'm doing it again this week! I never peek at the questions beforehand so I was surprised when I saw that today's questions are all about labor and delivery! I've never really talked about my pregnancies/labors/deliveries here so this should be fun! Ready?

1) If you had a c-section, do you wish you would have had a vaginal delivery, or vice versa?

I had a c-section with Addison and consequently had to have a c-section with James too. I could have had a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) with him but the only hospital that would do it is over an hour away from where I live and I just didn't feel like it was a good option. Back to the question - I was heart broken when my doctor told me I was going to have a c-section. Never once during my pregnancy did I even consider that I might have to go that route and it devastated me. I also think that he was just tired of waiting on me to progress and wanted to get it done and over with. In hind sight - my chubby cherub was way too big and there is no way she would have ever fit through the birth canal so the c-section was the right decision. There are still a few reasons why I wish it would have gone the other way though.

2) If vaginal did you do drug free?

Obviously this question doesn't apply to me because I had two c-sections but we're gonna talk about it anyway! I went to the hospital within a few hours of my water breaking when I was pregnant with Addison. Oh, how I wish I would have waited it out longer at home! I wasn't in any pain yet, but my husband was kind of freaking out - poor thing.  After my water broke I got up and took a shower, put my make up on, and fixed my hair before we left the house! I know that doesn't sound like a lot but I take f.o.r.e.v.e.r. so it was a couple of hours. Anyway, I wish I would have stayed home longer because when I got to the hospital they gave me pitocin to jump start my labor. JERKS. The pitocin brings those contractions on harder and stronger and y'all - it hurts. I dealt with it for a few hours until I was crying silent tears during each contraction and then I needed some pain relief. My point is - girl that did it without meds - KUDOS to you, cause I couldn't.

3) Did you have any complications?

With Addison my blood pressure went up after they gave me my epidural - and Addison's heart rate went down. I was turned onto my side and given oxygen. It was really scary. I remember lying there on my side with tears streaming down my face and not really understanding what was happening.

4) Who was in the delivery room with you?

Before it was determined that I was going to have a c-section with Addison, everyone was in there with me!! Of course at that point I was just laboring and not delivering! ha! For both deliveries my husband was the one in there with me.

5) Did you document your labor and delivery?

Absolutely no video - but some pictures! Here are a few from James' delivery. Pictures from Addison's aren't on this computer!

Waiting to for surgery.
Newborn James

Meeting his sister for the 1st time. Also his grandma & uncle.
1st Family photo - just missing sister. I'm totally drugged up here, so be nice. LOL

6) Pick the birth story of one of your children and tell us allll about it!!!

Well - since James' delivery was a scheduled c-section it was pretty routine. Go in, get medicated, get cut open, Hey Baby, tubes get tied up, stomach stapled back together! His delivery was easy and pretty painless! I remember how funny my anesthesiologist was though. I also remember thinking how unprofessional he was - making jokes like that while I was half naked on a cold steel table with my gut cut open!! I also remember being really sad because I couldn't see Addison until I got out of the hospital. The hospital didn't allow young children to come back into that area and my heart just broke not being able to be with her - she was so worried about mommy being in the hospital.

I was scheduled to be induced with Addison on Thursday October 4, 2007. My strong willed child had her own ideas though and in the early hours of Tuesday morning, October 2, I got up to go to the restroom to find that my water had actually broken. I was so relieved that it happened at home - I had heard some embarrassing stories about ladies' water breaking in public! Like I mentioned above, I wasn't ready to go to the hospital so I told my husband to go back to sleep and I took a shower and got myself ready for the big day! A few hours later my husband was growing impatient with me and he was ready to get me to the hospital, but I wasn't ready. I wish I would have listened to my instincts and said no, let's stay home awhile longer, but off to the hospital we went.

I don't remember all the nitty gritty details - how far I was dilated when I first checked into the hospital, etc. I do know that almost immediately I was hooked up to the pitocin to jump start my labor. My entire family showed up within a few hours and I remember being so grateful that they were all there. The pain was getting intense and I needed their support.

Once the pain got to be too much to bare I had my epidural. I was really really frightened about this whole process but it wasn't so bad! I barely felt even a pinch and it was all over with. Soon, relief! Unfortunately the epidural caused my blood pressure to go up and babies' heart rate to go down. See above. Everything got balanced out and was going fine but my doctor determined that I wasn't progressing fast enough and that I would need to have a c-section. I was so devastated and angry with him, but like I mentioned above, it turned out to be for the best.

The whole c-section thing is quite the experience. I'd never had surgery before and I didn't know what to expect. I won't lie, I was totally scared, but by 2 in the afternoon I had a beautiful baby in my arms and I had forgotten all about the other stuff. She was totally worth it.

What about you? C-section? Vaginal? Natural? Medicated? I'd love to hear your story!

Make it a great weekend!

Hey! Hey! It's Five Question Friday!

Hey y'all! I"m posting late again - I know you aren't surprised! Today was a busy day although I was down to just one kid for half of it! Miss Addison spent half the day with her Grandma for a "girl's day." They went to Toys R' Us, Chuck E. Cheese & the park! Spoiled much? Yes, she is! The little man & I did some shopping while sister was gone and it was a fun time. Now, we're looking forward to the awesome up coming weekend! Let's kick it off with a little 5QF shall we?

1) What terrifies you the most?
Realistically? Something awful happening to my children. I think that would be any mother's answer.
Irrationally? A crazy plane crash. Being attacked by an anaconda. A load of pipe flying off an 18 wheeler and coming through my windshield and killing me. Yup, those are all true fears that I worry about.

2) Favorite fall/winter drink?
I don't have just one - that's okay right? Of course, I like the ever popular pumpkin spice latte.  I also like the chai tea latte. Also - apple cider & of course hot cocoa/chocolate. My most favorite? Wassail, because it SCREAMS "holidays" at me - we always drank it at family gatherings during the holidays when I was a kid.

3) Do you and your spouse have the same political views?
Oh good Lordy, no! We don't hardly talk politics in this house because my husband and I do not see eye to eye on much in this area and quite frankly, it drives each of us crazy.

4) What was the last book you read? Was it any good?
Well! I'm glad you asked! The last book I read was "Suck Your Stomach In & Put Some Color On" and it was awesome! It's all about being a Southern woman but I believe that any woman could greatly benefit from reading it ;) With that being said, you should enter my giveaway to win a copy!

5) Do you look forward to the snow each year? Why or why not?
Well, sure I do! Know why? Cause we don't get any! Kidding! Well, no, we don't get any but I would love it if we did. On occasion we get a flurry or two but rarely does it stick, and if it does it's not gonna stick for long! I wish we could get more snow, but everyone I know who deals with wintry weather all the time keeps telling me I would hate it after awhile. Hmmph.

Y'all have a fantastic weekend!!!

Five Question Friday

Hey Hey! It's Friday and I'm so happy this week is almost over!! My weekend is jam packed with some amazing activities and I honestly can't wait to get on with it already!

After being a home owner for three years, we had our first little bump in the road this week. Our water heater went out. Side note: Am I the only one who says "hot water heater?" Someone corrected me saying, Why would you heat hot water? Ugh, whatever. Hey, hot water heater! Thanks for maxing out my recently paid off credit card! You jerk.

Anyway, it's been quite awhile since I've linked up with Mama M. @My Little Life for Five Question Friday so I thought it was about time I get on that.

1) Where do you hide junk when people come over?

Well, you guys don't know this about me, so I might as well just put it out there. I"m a clean freak. HA! LIKE Y'ALL WOULD BELIEVE THAT CRAP. Okay, but really, I'm not big on folks just dropping by. Actually, it's a pet peeve of mine. Call first. Make plans. Don't just stop in. UNLESS you are like BFF/Family (only some family) status. Then you can come see my pig sty and I don't really care. Now, if you call and say you are headed over and my house is especially messy I will take everything to my bedroom, put it on the bed and shut the door. Then I'll clean the kitchen. Voila, clean house. Typically I will clean my house spotless the day before company comes over. Last year while I was preparing James' 2nd birthday party I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get things done before our guests began to arrive. There were still a few dishes in the sink and I just did not have time. Y'all want to know what I did with em? Put 'em in the stove.

2) Do political ads help you decide who you are going to vote for?

No chance. In my opinion, they are wasting their money and making themselves look bad by slandering others.

3) What's your favorite holiday party to host?

I love Thanksgiving!  I get so much joy from planning and preparing a gorgeous meal for my family and friends. I love encouraging everyone to share what they are thankful for. Then, my favorite part, I love crashing on the couch while my hubs watches the football game.

4) You go to an island with your husband and can only take one personal item. What is it?

Okay, is this personal item supposed to be for the both of us? Or just for me? Can he bring his own personal item? I'm bringing my razor y'all. I can't stand to not be freshly shaved, especially if I'm going to be prancing around on a beach/island with my husband - my legs have got to be smooth. Hopefully he can bring a toothbrush or something ;)

5) If you found out your spouse was a Dexter style serial killer (only kills people to save others) would you rat?

Am I one of the very few people who doesn't watch this show? Yes? Oh well. Hmm...would I rat? No, maybe not, but we'd be getting a divorce, STAT. Also, I'd probably go into hiding.

HAPPY FRIDAY Y'ALL!!

Five Question Friday

Happy Friday Y'all!! This mama is ready for the weekend; we're going to the zoo tomorrow! Expect lots of pictures :)

It's time for 5QF and this week it is being hosted by Kate @ Kate's Life. Y'all go over and say hi, k?

Let's get this party started!

1) Do you call them flip flops, sandals, thongs, or slippers?

I call them flip flops or flops. Sandals have straps, thongs are underwear and slippers are soft and fuzzy. See the difference?

2) Are you a "my kids can do no wrong" mom or a "Johnny punched you? What did you do to him first?!" kind of mom?

I'm definitely not the first kind. My kids can be hellions and I"m the first to warn ya about it. The second kind could be me, if I'm talking directly to my own children because they pick on each other all the time. It's kind of  expected. Around other people these little brats tend to be really well behaved so I don't typically have any kind of issue there.

3) Would you confront a good friend who looks down on your husband/significant other?

In my opinion, if they did that to my husband then they probably aren't a good friend. So, yes. If that friend had a legit reason for feeling negatively about my husband then I would hear them out but I would expect them to extend me the same courtesy.

4) Biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve has got to be negativity/pessimism. I am the most glass half full kind of person you will ever meet and negative people really bring me down. I realize that things can't be peachy 24/7 but I try to make the best of every situation and folks who are Debbie Downers all day, every day really rake on my nerves.

5) What's your favorite take out meal?

Hands down, Chinese take out from this one place by my husband's office. It's so deliciously wonderful. Let me call him and let him know to pick up dinner... :)

Y'all have a wonderful weekend!!

XO,
Lacey

Five Question Friday

Well hell, it's 2 minutes to midnight so by the time this gets published it won't be Friday anymore but whatevs.  A day late and  a dollar short is the story of my life! I've been super swamped this week! I"m finally starting to dig out of my hole though! Anyway, it's Friday (yippee!) and time for me to link up with My Little Life for another edition of Five Question Friday.

1) What's your view on men wearing sandals? (Yay or Nay)

Hmmm...that kind of depends on the man. Some men are smokin hot and I wouldn't give two shits what they wore on their feet. Other men are not so hot, or have gross feet and should keep them covered. As a general rule of thumb, flip flops are fine. I live in flip flops so who would I be to judge a man for wearing flip flops? Strappy and/or velcro sandals are generally not hot, but again, smokin hot men get a little bit of a break from me :)

2) What song do you love but are embarrassed to admit?

I don't get embarrassed very easily. More like hardly at all. However, you probably would be surprised to know that I totally jam out to the Fresh Beat Band  in my car ALL.THE.TIME. I love the Fresh Beats. The music is so pumping and mood lifting. Love it. For Real.

3) What summer camp should they make for moms?

Wine & Therapy Week @ Camp She {Has To} Drinks A Lot

4) What is the most romantic song?

Oh wow - okay that is seriously a difficult one for me. I'll share with you the song I had playing at my wedding while guests were being seated and before I walked down the aisle. It was one of my favorites then and it still is to this day! I kinda feel like I"m cheating y'all out of a real answer on this one because there are so many great romance songs!!

5) Do you have an embarrassing pregnancy story?

Nope, not really embarrassing. I could tell lots of stories about being pregnant but again, I don't get embarrassed easily. A few awkward things happened during my 2nd pregnancy but by then I had no modesty left at all. Oh, this is sorta  embarrassing. My mother in law lives in Arkansas so we don't get to see her very often. So when Addison was born she and I hadn't spent a lot of time together and we were still trying to get to know one another. Reader's Digest Version: I had a c section. When hubby went back to work she was the one taking care of me at home and at the hospital. Let's just say we got REAL close REAL quick. I <3 her, she's been so good to me!

XO,
Lacey

Five Question Friday

Follow Me on Pinterest Hey Y'all!! It's Friday! Can I get a hell yeah? I know we just had a day off in the middle of the week but really it was only enough to piss me off. So let's say hello to the weekend! Let's get started with a little 5 Question Friday!

 Alright, here we go:

1) Is love at 1st sight possible?

As jaded as I am, I totally believe in love at first sight. When I was in college I fell hard for a perfect stranger. Luckily for me he happened to be the best friend of my new best (college) friend's boyfriend. (Still with me? lol) I knew from the first moment that I saw him that there was something super special about him and my heart swelled. We didn't have a happy ending but I blame it on the fact that he was in the Navy and just a few short months after we first met he was shipped off to Cuba.

2) How did you choose your pet's name?

I didn't! LuLu is a rescue. I would have never picked LuLu as a name but it fits her.

Pet names that I've picked in the past are: (Captain) Morgan, Tequila (Rose), and Skyy (Vodka). Hmm, yea, awkward now that I look back on it...

3) What are you considering giving up?

Wait, what? Why do I have to give anything up? Did I miss something? Just kidding.

Actually, the hubby and I have discussed giving up eating out all the time. I menu plan to death, I go to the grocery store and buy food for up to 2 weeks at a time and STILL we eat out constantly. I can't figure out why exactly but we did figure out that it really has to stop! We've allowed ourselves one meal out once a month (yikes!)

4) How much do you pay your babysitter?

Yea, we don't pay a babysitter... mostly cause we can't really afford one...which also means that we are very rarely without our children. As it stands if we need a sitter we turn to my in laws. Recently we went out of town for the weekend and we brought back a beautiful rustic corner cabinet for them to say "Thanks."

5) How "young" is old enough to babysit?

This is such a HARD question to answer. I started babysitting at a really young age. I watched myself after school very early on and I'd say by the time I was 10 or 11 I was caring for my cousins alone during the day all summer long. I was old enough even though I was young. I'd say that this is definitely a case by case basis dependent upon the person doing the babysitting and also the children that they will be watching. There are some 17 year old kids that aren't old/mature enough to babysit so I don't think that there is an "old enough" benchmark.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Five Questions Friday

Follow Me on Pinterest
Today I'm linking up with My Little Life for the very first time for Five Questions Friday!

Take a minute and hop on over or even link up yourself!
Alright, let's do this!

1) What's your favorite childhood snack that you still eat as an adult?

When I was a kid there was nothing I loved more than buttered cinnamon/sugar bread. A sice or two of yummy white bread slathered with creamy butter (from the tub, not the stick!) and then sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar. Yum-O y'all! I don't indulge in this particular snack very often these days, for obvious reasons but seriously, it's just heaven. Plus, so QUICK & EASY!

2) What food will you not eat the low fat version of?

Um, Yea..I don't eat the low fat version of ANYTHING. Okay, Okay, I really don't like low fait dairy products. If it is being used in a recipe then that is alright but other than that I prefer the full fat version thankyouverymuch.

3) What's your favorite way to cool off during the summer?

I like to hibernate inside my house with AC on 70 degress 24/7.

4) What's your favorite summer read?

Trashy celebrity gossip magazines are the best! I also like reading contemporary/modern romance novels. Lisa Kleypas is my favorite. You should read the Travises Series: Sugar Daddy, Blue-Eyed Devil, & Smooth Talking Stranger. Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin was also an awesome read as are some of her other books! ..And now you know I"m a book nerd! LOL.

5) What are you doing to stay cool in this awful heat?

We really are spending more and more time doing indoor activities. I'm trying really hard to only be out of the comforts of the AC in the early morning or late evening hours. Coaxing us outdoors pretty much requires some sort of water activity at this point. I'm a total wimp when it comes to the heat, can you tell??
